Saltavots manages 23 water supply systems across the municipality, and Sigulda municipality also offers co-financing for a connection. On this page we compare both routes and describe how we work on slopes and in the valley.
Saltavots networks and water in Sigulda
In 2026 Saltavots publishes drinking water test results for 23 systems. Among them are Sigulda, the Gauja right-bank area, Allaži, More, Mālpils, Ragana, Turaida, Inciems, Lēdurga, Inčukalns and Gauja. A network map is available at gis.saltavots.lv. Outage notices also mention a borehole pump failure in the Upmala system on 30.10.2026. The company does not publish a list of areas where houses use their own sources.
The average hardness for Sigulda town on the Saltavots website is 2.825 mmol/l, which is moderately hard water (19.09.2023), and in 2024 hardness was not measured in the production boreholes. In a BIOR sample taken on 25.03.2026 at the Sigulda water treatment plant (Dārza iela 47a), iron was below 20 µg/l, turbidity below 0.10 NTU and pH 7.7. So a connected house does not need an iron filter; whether you need a water softener, decide by how much limescale you get.
Drilling on a slope and in the valley
Descriptions of Sigulda mention the ancient valley, steep terrain and protected nature areas, which create different construction and access conditions than in the flat suburbs. The drilling rig needs an access road and a level working area. On a slope the area sometimes has to be levelled, or the borehole placed up by the road, and then the water pipe to the house is longer: water supply system installation.
The terrain also changes the number of metres. From a high bank you have to drill further to reach the same aquifer than down by the river, so a neighbour's borehole depth is only a guide if the neighbour is at a similar height. We do not promise a specific depth in advance; we look at data for the nearest boreholes on the borehole map.
If the plot is within Gauja National Park or another protected area, ask the municipal building authority (būvvalde) before the work whether there are additional requirements. After drilling and test pumping, the borehole needs borehole equipment (from €500) and a submersible pump whose pressure must also overcome the height difference up to the house.
Co-financing for a connection: up to €2,500, apply by 1 November
Sigulda municipality binding regulations No. 17 (in force from 31.05.2024) give support for connecting a residential house to the water main, the sewer or both. Standard support is up to 50% of the actual costs, no more than €60 per metre; for priority groups up to 100% and €120/m. The overall limit is €2,500 per connection. The applicant must be an owner declared as resident in Sigulda municipality, with no real estate tax debts.
The deadline matters most: the application is submitted by 1 November for the following year's budget, and if the connection has already been built, no support is granted. The work must be finished within 6 months of the contract. The 2026 deadline has passed, so the next one is 01.11.2027 if you want to build in 2028.
Saltavots issues technical conditions within 11 working days, free of charge and valid for two years, and Saltavots builds the branches from the network to the plot boundary at its own expense, not the customer's (regulations No. 18, point 19.6). If the customer also uses a local source, it must not be connected to the public water main (point 33).

Other work in Sigulda
- Spike well installation in Sigulda (“spice” in Latvian): from €350, where the water is shallow and the soil sandy.
- Borehole: from €65/m, a borehole about 30 m deep from €2,000 excluding the pump and the pipe run.
- Well cleaning with disinfection: from €150.
- Water testing: basic from €35, the full test with microbiology from €95.
Guest houses and tourism sites need to know two thresholds. If the source water is supplied to a public building, or 50 or more people use it and abstraction exceeds an average of 10 m³ per day, the mandatory requirements and monitoring of Cabinet Regulation No. 547 apply. If abstraction is 10 m³ per day or more, you also need a water use permit: borehole for a business.
For a seasonal guest house we recommend a water test and water filter maintenance (from €40/h) before the season: water that has stood in the pipes and filters for months changes taste, and filter cartridges are worth replacing after a long idle period.
