In blocks of flats and some private houses the water comes from the town network, which since 01.09.2026 has been run by SIA Ķekavas nami. In the detached-house blocks by the forests and in residential estates such as Titurga, there are also homes that water the garden from their own spike well or borehole, or rely on it entirely. On this page we explain both cases.
What changed in Baloži's water supply in 2026
Until 2026 the town's water main and sewerage were run by SIA Baložu komunālā saimniecība. In the reorganisation of Ķekava municipality it was merged into SIA Ķekavas nami, which has provided the services since 01.09.2026; on 29.10.2026 Baložu komunālā saimniecība was struck off the register. In the regulator's decision No. 110, the Baloži water tariff for 2026 and 2027 is €0.59/m³ excluding VAT. Questions about contracts, bills and technical conditions now go to Ķekavas nami.
We found no public data on iron and hardness in Baloži's network water, and no list of streets without the network has been published. Baloži is a town of blocks of flats, detached houses and forests, whose functional area is extended by Titurga and other nearby residential estates; there is also wetter ground in the surrounding area.
For a flat: a filter based on a test, not an assumption
In a block of flats the shared plumbing is the building manager's responsibility, so what a flat owner can realistically do is fit a filter in their own kitchen or at the flat's inlet. We take a water sample from your tap, deliver it to an accredited laboratory and explain the result. A basic test costs from €35.
If in an old building the water is brownish only in the morning or after a burst in the network, the cause is often the pipes, not the water itself. That is why it is worth taking the sample twice: the first water in the morning and after running the tap. If the taste or sediment bothers you, we install a reverse osmosis filter in the kitchen (from €250 with installation); a larger unit for a flat is chosen only if a test justifies it.
For a private house: a spike well for the garden, a borehole for a house without the network
In Baloži's detached-house blocks both options exist: the house is on the network but the garden is watered from a spike well, or the house uses only its own source. At a tariff of €0.59/m³, network water for watering is not expensive, so a garden spike well pays for itself more slowly than in places with a higher tariff. Whether it is worth it depends on how much you water and whether you want to be independent of the network.
In wetter spots the water may lie close to the surface, and a spike well may be enough. But on wet ground it matters more than anywhere else that rain and surface water do not run into the source along the pipe or the well's rings. We do not name the groundwater depth in Baloži in advance; the neighbours' sources and the drilling show it.
- Spike well installation in Baloži: from €350; for a garden watered only in season, see also spike well for garden watering.
- Borehole for a house without the network: from €65/m.
- Water pump installation: a pump station for a spike well or a submersible pump for a borehole; submersible pump installation from €200, pump separate.
- Full water test with microbiology: from €95, if you also want to use the spike well water in the house.
If a house has both the network and its own source
Ķekava municipality binding regulations No. 21/2022 also apply in Baloži. If a building has two water sources, for example a local well or borehole and the water main, there must be an air break of at least 50 mm or a special non-return valve at the junction (point 23), and the local source's pipes must be physically separated from the network (point 58). When connecting the property, the owner confirms in writing that the borehole or spike well is not joined to the network (point 14.3).
In practice a watering spike well must have its own pipe and its own taps, not be connected to the house's plumbing. When we install it, we check that there is no shared junction anywhere. A watering spike well is usually no deeper than 20 m and gives far less than 10 m³ per day, so it needs no licence; in the regulations, though, it is still a borehole and a first-group engineering structure.
If the house is not yet connected and the street has the network, Ķekava municipality may cover the connection section for priority groups of residents, up to €2,500 for a single-family house. The conditions are described on the Ķekava page.
